Welcome to Council Oak!
At Council Oak Elementary, we cultivate active and authentic learning experiences within an innovative, mindful, and joy-filled community of learners. Rooted in an unwavering respect for every child, we foster learning communities immersed in critical thinking, academic ideation, creative design, and emotional intelligence.
Focus on the Whole Child
We are one of five recipients of the Wallace Foundation Social/Emotional Learning Grant, aimed at supporting the development of children's cognitive, interpersonal and character-building skills through an improved curriculum. We focus on restorative practices rather than punitive, so we can educate the whole child by meeting his or her social, emotional and academic needs. With strong social and emotional skills, our students will be able to set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.
Through a generous gift provided by the Council Oak Foundation, outdoor education is a regularly occurring experience for all of our student. Through hands-on and innovative learning experiences, Council Oak students joyfully engage within the community and exchange ideas, areas of expertise, and distinct experiences to enhance the learning environment for all our students.
We provide children with collaborative workspaces, materials for constructivist thinking and hands-on exploration to increase their engagement with the curriculum. Our teachers offer flexible seating so students can utilize a variety of workspaces for group projects. Students are given choices in their learning so they can take ownership of their schoolwork and demonstrate an ability to solve problems for themselves in the future.
